Common Side Effects is an American animated series created by Joseph Bennett and Steve Hely that has aired on Adult Swim since February 2, 2025. The series is produced by Bandera Entertainment, Green Street Pictures, Tell Me More, and Williams Street. The show is executively produced by Craig Daniels and Mike Judge. The series was renewed for a second season that is set to premiere in 2027.[1][2]
An encore run of season one began airing on the Toonami block from March 1, 2025 to May 3, 2025.
Plot
The show centers around two high school friends, Marshall Cuso and Frances Applewhite, discovering the Blue Angel Mushroom, a mushroom with healing effects that appears to cure all illnesses.
Characters
Marshall Cuso - The knowledgeable, cautious protagonist of the series and was friends with Frances in high school. He is an accomplished expert in fungi who has done charity work in foreign countries and is sly in run-ins with the DEA.
Frances Applewhite - Rick's executive assistant and Marshall's high school lab mate, and friend.
Agents Copano and Harrington - They are nonchalant best friends who work for the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Rick Kruger - The incompetent chief executive officer of Reutical, who constantly bothers Frances to do mundane tasks for him, such as booking reservations and changing the TV channel.

Broadcast History
Common Side Effects premiered on February 2, 2025 with new episodes airing Sundays at 11:30 PM on Adult Swim and next day streaming on HBO Max. The first season finished its Adult Swim run on March 30, 2025, with reruns continuing to air on the regular Adult Swim block. A second season was announced on March 28, 2025 and a screening for it will occur at Annecy Festival 2026. The second season is set to premiere in 2027. The series later began airing on Toonami from March 1, 2025 to May 3, 2025.

Toonami Broadcast History
Season one of Common Side Effects began airing on the Toonami block at 12:30 AM on March 1, 2025, replacing an airing of Blue Exorcist.[3] On the day it premiered, the block opened with TOM and SARA urging the viewers to give the show a chance even if it stands out among the rest of the Toonami lineup. After the first season completed its Toonami run on May 3, 2025, it was subsequently replaced in the lineup by Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War on May 17th, following the Lazarus Half-Season Marathon that aired the previous week on the 10th.
